CLINICAL NURSING DEPARTMENT

» Welcome to the Clinical Nursing Department, one of the departments at AAMSoN. It is vested with the responsibility of teaching clinical courses both in class and in the clinical setting of Bugando Medical Centre and at Shinyanga Referral Regional Hospital with the outcome of producing future competent, confident, respectful, caring nurses equipped with cognitive, psychomotor and attitude competencies. The department offers several undergraduate courses, including Foundations & Basic Principles of Nursing, Advanced Principles of Nursing, Medical- Surgical Nursing, Paediatric Nursing, Mental Health, Paediatric Nursing Practice, Forensic Psychiatry Field Work Practice, and Medical-Surgical Nursing Practice. Different approaches are used to facilitate learning in clinical settings including demonstrations during bedside/ clinical site teaching, case presentations and discussions, and reflective journaling of clinical experience. 2 During the clinical placement, responsibility for teaching lies both to the clinical staff and the faculty. Students interact more with clients and other hospital teams at the sites, giving them more confidence.

The department's vision is to become one of the outstanding departments in AAMSoN and CUHAS, providing quality teaching in classroom and clinical settings, conducting clinical research to enhance evidence-based practice, and thus producing knowledgeable, compassionate, and competent future nurses.

Ms. Nankondo John Mtaita

Staff

Nankondo John Mtaita is a tutorial assistant in the Department of Clinical Nursing at Archbishop Anthony Mayala School of Nursing (AAMSON), a constituent School of the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS). Ms Nankondo holds a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. She is passionate about teaching, supporting, and caring for people with mental health challenges. Currently, she facilitates tutorials and clinical supervision for undergraduate nursing students on mental health nursing. Ms Nankondo also facilitated tutorials on medical and surgical nursing. Her research interests are in Mental health nursing, Psychology and Psychiatry. In her free time, she likes to spend time with friends, visit good, calming places surrounded by nature, and sing.

Mr. Renatus Budula Magati

Renatus B. Magati is a Nurse Specialist in Critical Care and Trauma Nursing and serves as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Nursing at the Catholic University of Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS). He earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) from CUHAS and completed a Master of Science in Critical Care and Trauma Nursing at the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS).
In his academic role, Renatus teaches undergraduate nursing students, supervises clinical practice, and mentors undergraduate research projects. His professional and scholarly interests span HIV/AIDS, Non-communicable diseases with a particular emphasis on Cardiovascular disease, Emergency Nursing, Critical Care Practice, and Nursing Education.
Renatus is dedicated to advancing evidence-based nursing practice and strengthening healthcare delivery in Tanzania. His work integrates clinical expertise with academic inquiry, aiming to improve patient outcomes in critical and emergency care while contributing to the growth of nursing education and research capacity in the region.
