Directorate of Research and Innovation
By Prof Gilbert Kongola, The Director for Research and Innovation:
Research remains one of the core activities of the Catholic University Health and Allied Sciences (CUHAS). Until recently research activities were
administered under an Associate Director Research and Publication; within the Directorate of Postgraduate
Studies.
The Directorate has the responsibility of promoting, monitoring and reporting research activities at the
University through its Research and Publication Committee. It calls for research proposals, scrutinizes
them, recommends allocation of funds for proposals that meet the criteria set by the University. It also
scrutinizes the ethical aspects of the research proposals that are to be conducted under the umbrella of
the University
In its new status it is envisaged that, funds allowing, it will coordinate and organizes research methodology
workshops for university staff, take an inventory of ongoing research and published results of studies conducted
by university staff. It is envisaged the directorate in a multi-school environment will be playing a
coordinating role by contracting experts to write research proposals, solicit, negotiate, and administer
research grants for members of staff, liaise with national and international institutions that can collaborate
in research, facilitate interaction between researchers within and outside operational units, solicit
from staff proposals that stand a good chance of being funded, interact with policy makers to incorporate
research findings in the national development activities
